Acabado works differently from most themes. Usually, you have 2 options for homepage design: use a regular old blog roll and sidebar as the homepage or design a custom page. Acabado gives you a 3rd option.
Option 1: Standard Blog Roll
If you just want a blog roll with nothing at the top of the page and no bells and whistles, you don’t need to do anything. By default Acabado will run as a standard blog roll, but you’ll be missing out on some key optimized features.
Option 2: Custom Home Page
If you want something totally custom for your home page, that’s cool too. You can use the WordPress built-in page builder or both Divi and Elementor page builders are compatible with Acabado.
Just create your custom home page and follow Steps 1 & 2 below using any page title EXCEPT home for your slug.
Option 3: Acabado Homepage (recommended)
The Acabado home page is designed to be visually appealing and offer optimal site speed. If you plan to use the “One Click Demo” import plugin this is the type of home page that will be set up.
Step 1: Create a "Homepage"
In your WordPress dashboard go to Pages > Add New. It does not matter if you click the “Add New” top button or the dashboard link, both will take you to the same place.
As the title of your new page type “Home”. Don’t add any other content and click “Publish” in the top right corner. This page is will be your slug for your home page.
Step 2: Set Your New Homepage
Now go to Settings > Reading. Under “Your Homepage Displays…” check the option for a static page. Then select the slug page you created titled “Home” from the dropdown for homepage.
Step 3: Customize Your Acabado Homepage Settings
Next go to the Acabado Settings > Homepage. This is where you can adjust the your home page display. There are a couple of areas you can choose to activate and customize.
There are a couple of areas you can choose to activate and customize.
Hero Image
The hero image is a large image that displays below the logo but above the content section. A hero image is an optional feature of Acabado, but we feel if offers a great visual appeal to viewers. You can customize this feature by ticking the Display Hero Section box. Then add the image file and any button options. Pay attention to image dimensions.
Note: Hero copy is required. If you do not want copy, then just press the space bar in this field. The button and text are optional and will appear centered ON the image.
Featured Images
Next you can select your featured image tiles. If this is a new site with no existing content, you will need to come back to this step later. Featured image tiles are clickable images that link to showcased posts. You may customize how many (2-6) and what posts are featured. To add featured image tiles to your homepage, tick the “Display Featured Images” box. Then use the plus (+) sign or the “Add Featured Tile” button to add information. Tiles may be removed by clicking the minus (-) bubble. Again, pay attention to image dimensions.
Schema Markup
Lastly, select any extra schema posts that you would like to appear on the home page. Schema is specific type of meta tagging that lets Google know certain information. These tags help Google present your information in search results in a way that makes it stand out. If you would like to use Acabado schema markup check the box to add the corresponding post type. All categories are optional.
When you have finished customizing your settings, click “Update” on the right side of your screen. You must press update before leaving this page your changes will be lost.
